Abstract

Have you thought about how perfectly positioned nurses are to identify barriers to providing outstanding patient- and family-centered care? As nurses providing Courageous Care we are also called upon to be leaders who make a positive difference addressing those barriers — regardless of our position or title.

Stepping up to lead change isn't easy; it takes courage. But if we are committed to providing Courageous Care, who better than us — with our consistent presence at the bedside — to address these obstacles and lead the implementation of solutions?

Great examples of nurses courageously leading change are demonstrated in many of our institutions. They are also showcased by the units participating in AACN's Clinical Scene Investigator (CSI) Academy, our nursing leadership and innovation training program that empowers nurses as clinician leaders and change agents.
