Abstract

A representative national sample of 1,165 adults over 18 years of age was questioned as to income, occupation, social status, and income aspirations. Income dissatisfaction is most closely related to present income level, but it is also related to occupational status. Among dissatisfied persons, income aspirations parallel the present income level. Within an income level, dissatisfaction seems unrelated to education.
