Abstract

This review highlights the increasing importance that several current molecular biological techniques are expected to play in diagnostic pathology these techniques are applicable to both neoplastic and non-neoplastic disease processes and revolve around the ability to rapidly provide genotypic information in both normal and diseased tissues they allow for the identification of pathogenic DNA disease point mutations and the demonstration of an indimation in both normal and diseased tissues they allow for the identification of pathogenic DNA disease point mutations and the demonstration of an individual's genetic susceptibility to disease six techniques are described hereinin a simplication format to facilitate understanding of the concepts and to make in a simplified fomat to facilitate understanding of the concepts and to make their application readily accessible it should be appreciated that the usual constraints and difficulties associated with laboratory techniques are operative when performing them and they should not be considered they are all based on the exponential amplification of DNA careful interpretation of results is mandatory especially considerinr the possibility of crossvide the methodology that will serve as an adjuvant to conventional pathologyical techniques
