A large number of papers and discussions, from a meeting held in February 1977, that offer a detailed and wideranging view of important clinical, epidemiologic, and investigative problems in the natural history and preventive and drug treatment of mild hypertension. The focus is mainly on such matters as the problems of multicenter trials and compliance and the evidence justifying widespread treatment of mild hypertension. Thus the collection will not be useful to most practicing physicians except as background reading.
