Abstract

The Federated Council for Internal Medicine* (FCIM) and its component members—the American Board of Internal Medicine, the American College of Physicians, the American Society of Internal Medicine, and the Association of Professors of Medicine—believe that continuing efforts should be made to ensure that an appropriate number and distribution of internists are available for the provision of optimum medical care for the people of the United States. The FCIM has, therefore, supported the National Study of Internal Medicine Manpower (NaSIMM) and has examined carefully the data produced to this point.
