Abstract

It is remarkable, but apparently true, that this monograph is the first on its subject. The author opines that such a work is “long overdue,” a contention difficult to gainsay in an era of increased awareness of environmental pollution and iatrogenic triumphs and misadventures. Dr. Zimmerman presents a comprehensive, current “state of the art” compilation of a topic plagued by insufficient epidemiologic data and deficient knowledge of pharmacokinetics and pathophysiology of hepatotoxicity in man.

Its four sections cover an overview, experimental aspects, environmental hepatotoxicity, and iatrogenic hepatotoxicity, which is, appropriately, the longest section. Although logical, this organization leads to much
