Abstract

To the editor: Tamoxifen, a new antiestrogen, is considerably active in breast cancer (1). The use of this drug in premenopausal women with breast cancer has been limited and poorly documented; however, the timely communication by Pritchard and associates in the November 1978 issue (2) has further shown that tamoxifen can be beneficial in this group. Undoubtedly, more premenopausal women will be exposed to this drug, and previously unrecognized effects may be observed. We report a new possible side-effect of tamoxifen: lactation in a premenopausal woman.

A 31-year-old premenopausal woman who had had four pregnancies and given birth four times
