Differs from textbooks of internal medicine in that almost half of the text discusses family structure and dynamics, preventive care including periodic health servicing, rehabilitation and other allied care services, behavioral disorders, and counseling (marital, sexual, contraceptive, and genetic). The other half surveys the most frequent major and minor clinical problems under a rubric of the clinical specialties and subspecialties.

Much of the first half would be a valuable supplement to standard textbooks of internal medicine for those residents who wish to widen their comprehension of the problems seen in office care of ambulatory patients.
