To the editor: In their excellent article on septic bursitis in the prepatellar and olecranon bursae, Ho, Tice, and Kaplan (1) reported 24 culture-positive cases of septic bursitis, 22 with Staphylococcus aureus and two with group A, beta-hemolytic streptococci, and at least two culture-negative cases in patients taking antibiotics. This distribution is corroborated by their review of the literature and a subsequent report (2). Isolated cases of septic bursitis involving other organisms were noted, including Mycobacterium marinum, Sporothrix schenckii, and achloric algae.
