The second edition of Sleisenger and Fordtran's book maintains its well-earned reputation as the premiere textbook in the field of “hollow-organ” gastroenterology. Its continued lack of a section on liver disease may disappoint some, but this surely reflects a wise decision on the part of the authors not to make the finished product any more cumbersome or expensive.
