To the editor: I read “Prevalence of Antibody to the Legionnaires' Disease Bacterium in Hospital Employees” in the April issue (1) with great interest because the authors' suggestion that person-to-person transmission of Legionnaires' disease bacterium does occur is contrary to popular belief.Another study in the same issue (2) used the same laboratory methods to carry out a seroepidemiologic survey of Michigan residents. The authors presented seroprevalence rates in those in the > 1:16 category because they believed that titers below 1:128 might indicate past infection. Their finding of an overall prevalence of 22.5% was far lower than the total
