A “foundation” is something on which something else is constructed. “Scientific” is a descriptive adjective, pertaining to that which is knowledge or fact gained by systematized study. “Family Medicine” is generally accepted as the body of knowledge that is required of the new specialist, who is charged with the medical care of patients limited not by age or specific disease, but by the social environment called the family.

Given the above relatively clear definitions, the text that bears that title falls far short of my expectations. You are warned in the preface that the content of the book is actually
