Hematologic Adverse Effects of Aminoglutethimide

To the editor: Aminoglutethimide has been increasingly used in the treatment of hormonally responsive breast cancer instead of surgical adrenalectomy or hypophysectomy. The common side effects of the drug include skin rash and central-nervous-system side effects (lethargy, ataxia, and dizziness). These side effects are usually transient and rarely require discontinuation of the therapy. Hematotoxicity has been reported in few patients (1, 2), but the magnitude of this side effect has been emphasized in earlier publications.
