Abstract

Genotyping using short tandem repeats (STRs) is most commonly known for its use in forensic identity testing. In the practice of surgical pathology, STR genotyping has been applied as a method to resolve the identity of mislabeled specimens or tissue floaters, which will be illustrated by this case review. In gynecologic pathology, STR genotyping is also commonly used as an aid in the diagnosis of hydatidiform moles.
