Abstract

I made the following remarks in introducing Dr. Ruth Lilis when she received an award from the New York-New Jersey NIOSH Educational Resource Center on April 15, 2004. We at Mount Sinai School of Medicine were fortunate to have known Ruth for 30 years as colleague, teacher, counselor and friend. For reasons that I hope I convey, Ruth Lilis was the Professor favored by residents and faculty alike. Even after she retired a few years ago, I used to visit with Ruth once or twice per year. We had lunch around the corner from where she and her husband Michael lived. She listened and offered advice and encouragement. It was quintessential Ruth. We will miss her.S.M.
