Antemortem diagnosis in two cases of malignant peritoneal mesothelioma
This report documents the antemortem diagnosis of two cases of malignant peritoneal mesothelioma. The diagnosis was established by laparotomy in one patient and by peritoneoscopy in the other. Both patients also demonstrated thrombocytosis and an increase in fibrinogen-fibrin degradation products. Peritoneoscopy and coagulation screening studies may be important diagnostic aids in the antemortem diagnosis of this rare neoplasm.
