Abstract

Comments that K. D. O'Leary and T. D. Borkovec's (see record 1979-24057-001) conceptualization of the placebo concept fails to deal with an important aspect of placebo, that of a patient knowing that a treatment is a placebo. An alternative definition views the placebo effect as coming about because the client believes that therapy will be effective (i.e., expectation).
