Abstract

Numerous treatment modalities have been employed for chronic recurrent subluxation of the temporomandibular joint. Most conservative and surgical approaches have had mediocre results. In 1951 Hilmar Myrhaug reported on a new surgical technique wherein the articular eminence is removed. This procedure, it appears, has not been widely accepted.

Our experience with 15 patients treated by this means has been excellent. The series is presented to recommend it as a useful surgical technique for this often perplexing problem.
