Abstract

A two-way telemedicine system employing laser beams is used for consultation in anesthesia. The consultant can view on a color-TV monitor the patient, anesthetizing area, and the operating room, and can converse with the anesthetist. The system permits the consultant to pan and tilt the camera and adjust the zoom and focus by means of a remote-control panel. Favorable clinical experience with this modality justifies expansion of the system, designed to make consultants available to understaffed and remote hospitals.
