Abstract

All museums rely heavily on a wide range of volunteers who support the staff both in galleries and behind the scenes. At The Royal College of Surgeons of England we are no exception and our volunteers range from senior fellows, retired dentists, haematologists and railway engineers to archaeologists and university students wishing to gain museum experience. They are all special and unique and we very much value their experience, skills and personal contribution. Those in front-of-house roles have two things in common: they are good communicators and enjoy interacting with our diverse audiences.
