Abstract

This year marks the bicentenary of the opening of the Hunterian Museum here at The Royal College of Surgeons of England. This affords our dental profession the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of one of its giants, Sir John Tomes, who had important connections with this College and the Hunterian Museum. He was at the forefront of all the developments that eventually led to the establishment of dentistry as practised today.
