Abstract

In its 2002 documentDelivering the NHS Plan, the Department of Health set a target of 75% of all surgical procedures being performed as day-case procedures.1Tonsillectomy is quoted as one of the operations in the ‘basket’ of 25 procedures deemed suitable by the Audit Commission and the British Association of Day Surgery (BADS).2,3With respect to tonsillectomy alone, the target is quoted as 70% for children and 80% for adults.3
