Abstract

Advances in ultrasonography technology have resulted in miniaturisation of machines to the extent that they are now the size of a laptop or smaller. This has led to portability and has made assessment of the patient at the bedside practical.1Clinicians can carry out focused examinations on patients that allow rapid determination of diagnosis and triage to the appropriate management, including discharge. It is particularly useful out of hours when hospital radiology departments are closed.
