THE GYNECOLOGIC ONCOLOGY GROUP was founded in 1970 with the purpose of conducting clinical investigations among patients afflicted with gynecologic cancer, utilizing wherever possible a multimodality approach in the hope that, collectively, the Group could answer key questions that would be beyond the reasonable capabilities of any single institution. The founding members represented 12 nationally recognized institutions in 1971, and this has grown to the present status where there are 34 university hospital programs which have participated in 45 group-wide protocols and 16 pilot studies.
