Abstract

Adenosine produced endogenously has electrophysiologic actions through-out the heart that can be both proarrhythmic and antiarrhythmic intravenous adenosine can be used to terminate acute episodes of supraventricular tachycardia and may also be a tool to assist in the diagnosis of a number of arrhythmias. Because adenosine has an ultrashort duration of action and its spectrum of effects is well characterized it is a uniquely useful agent in arrhythmia managemnet.
