Methods are described for the design and fabrication of polarographic oxygen-sensing electrodes (Clark electrodes). The discussion includes: general physical configuration; suitable materials for the sensor body and the metallic electrodes; membrane material; filling electrolyte; pressure and temperature effects; and, basic requirements for the front-end electronics used with these sensors. Typical performance curves are presented, as well as a schematic for a simple oxygen monitor.
