This paper presents two general designs for true constant-current stimulators suitable for biomedical applications. Both designs utilize the LM334 3-terminal, adjustable current source. One design applies to pulsed-mode applications and permits the use of monophasic or biphasic pulses with independent adjustment of pulse amplitude, duration, and separation. The second design incorporates an optical isolator so that constant-current analog stimulation may be achieved. These circuits will drive resistive loads characteristic of biological systems.
