Abstract

Barrett's columnar-epithelium-lined esophagus was found in a patient with achalasia who had developed severe gastroesophageal reflux after a Heller esophagomyotomy 16 years before. Severe symptoms of reflux were present for 2 years before the diagnosis of the Barrett's esophagus. The reflux symptoms disappeared after an antireflux procedure.
