Monoclonal Gammopathy Common in the Elderly

Abstract

Synopsis:

In this observational study of Olmstead County Minnesota, the authors describe the prevalence of monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) in residents 50 years or older. The overall prevalence was 3.2%. Male sex and older age were risk factors for having MGUS. Among those 80 years and over, an MGUS was detected in 6.6%. MGUS is common among older adults.
