Abstract

This review focuses on recent advances in research that may have potential clinical significance in the near future. Our knowledge concerning endothelium-derived constrictive and relaxing factors has expanded rapidly with vast implications for our understanding of vascular physiology. A fascinating picture of vascular regulation is now emerging, with local mediators competing with neurally released stimuli, as well as with blood-borne factors, over control of flow.
