This review of the recent literature focuses primarily on developments in the clinical arena. In particular, new developments in the area of gastroduodenal motor activity are discussed and the relative merits of various techniques in clinical practice critically evaluated. The broad spectrum of clinical conditions associated with both gastric and upper gastrointestinal motility continues to expand and new clinical entities have emerged. Finally, advances in therapy and some new, and exciting, therapeutic options have emerged, particularly, for the patient with intractable symptoms.
