juvenile offending is a major cause for concern in most parts of the world. The cost to the young person, his or her family and the community is enormous yet the resources spent on research do not reflect its importance. The research covered in this review mostly confirms previous findings, namely the importance of early onset, multiple offending and family discord in the aetiology of delinquency. The need for epidemiologically based outcome studies is emphasized.
