Abstract

This review discusses recent literature in the areas of mental disorder and criminality, violence, disorders of impulse control, and other topics related to applied criminology. Major mental illness is emerging as a risk factor for criminality. Prediction of future violence and criminality based soley on endogenous characteristics remains problematic. The usefulness of impulse-control-disorder diagnoses such as kleptomania or pyromania remains questionable.
