Abstract

New ultrasound enhancers are developed for in situ theranostics, for both diagnostic and therapeutic treatments. These systems consist of gas-filled microballoons (MBs) prepared from telechelic poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA). Drug loading and release were first studied using telechelic PVA gels. Two drug loading methods for MBs were explored. Loadings of up to 6% were obtained when adding the drug during the manufacturing process, whereas 25% loadings were reached when soaking the MBs in a drug solution.
