Nose and sinus airflow

Abstract

The flow characteristics of nasal respiratory air and the essential role of the nose in processing large inspiratory and expiratory volumes are discussed. These features contrast with sinus airflow, which is small, and whose contribution to the respiratory process is inconsequential. Nevertheless, patent sinus ostia are essential to health. Because there have been few relevant publications in the immediate review period, this presentation extends beyond it. Olfaction and speech are not discussed.
