Further advances in investigations of sugar-induced and seleniteinduced cataract have been reported this year as models of human cataract. Radiation and inherited cataracts provided other models. In human lenses trace metal analysis has been revived, while examination of levels of glutathione and the enzymes that control it continue. More interest is developing in “after-cataract” following extracapsular extraction. Possible anticataract therapy in the form of aspirin and thiol compounds has been reported on in animal and human studies.
