Magnetic resonance continues to be the major focus of research in musculoskeletal imaging. Excellent contrast and spatial resolution, multiplanar capabilities, as well as a noninvasive nature and lack of ionizing radiation, contribute to its preeminence in the evaluation of the knee. Direct visualization of the menisci, ligaments, musculotendinous structures, articular cartilage, and bone marrow allows global evaluation of knee joint anatomy and pathology.
