Abstract

Sequential localization examinations (microscopic and bacteriologic) of the urethra, bladder, and prostate are the only way to diagnose and differentiate between chronic bacterial prostatitis, non-bacterial prostatitis, and prostatodynia. The urethral Gram-positive cocci (with the exception of enterococci), Chlamydia trachomatis, and Ureaplasma urealyticum do not play any role in the cause of chronic bacterial or non-bacterial prostatitis.
