Abstract

Infected semen is a principal mode of spread of the HIV disease. The characteristics of male reproductive tract organs that protect spermatozoa from immunologic attack may also create a unique environment for HIV. Understanding the pathobiology of HIV in the male reproductive tract is therefore essential for the design of effective strategies of prophylaxis and treatment.
