NACNS is pleased to announce that Karen Carter Lyon, PhD, RN, CS, CNOR, CNAA, has joined the Board of Directors as an at-large director to complete the unexpired term of Kathleen Wright, who has assumed the role of NACNS Secretary due to illness of the officer previously in this position. Karen has an MSN in medical-surgical nursing from the University of Texas at El Paso and an MBA and a PhD in curriculum and instruction from New Mexico State University. She is certified by the ANA/ANCC as a CNS in medical-surgical nursing and in advanced nursing administration; by the state of Texas as a CNS; and by the Board of Perioperative Nursing. She has more than 25 years of nursing experience, including roles as a director of nursing; president of CarLyon & Company, Healthcare Consultants; manager of education services for Baxter Healthcare Corporation; faculty member at the University of Phoenix. Currently, she practices in El Paso, Texas, as a CNS in burn care, wound care, and hyperbaric medicine, partnering in private practice with a physician colleague (who is also her husband!). She has two teenagers, a 16-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl, along with a chocolate lab and a black cocker spaniel who she counts as two more children. Karen enjoys running, reading, and singing with the El Paso Chorale. She currently serves as vice president of the Texas Affiliate, American Heart Association.
