Abstract

ABSTRACT

Nurses have an important role in dispelling patients' and family members' fears of radiation therapy. However, nurses must be aware of their own fears in relation to this treatment modality if they are to provide effective patient care. Four clinical situations are presented to demonstrate nurses' fears of radiation exposure and the effect on quality patient care. Strategies that have been used to deal with each situation are presented. Recommendations to minimize nurses' fears of radiation exposure are discussed.
