Abstract
A 42-year-old man with Hodgkin disease of the mediastinum (initial stage IIIB) was referred for restaging after completion of chemotherapy. The CT scan showed complete remission, the FDG PET revealed intense and symmetric uptake in the buccal and parapharyngeal region, whereas the sites of the initial manifestations did not show any pathologic uptake. The only clinical finding was a symmetric hypertrophy of the masseteric muscles. Precise anamnesis revealed that the patient regularly chews chewing gum and that he had done so in the uptake period before FDG PET imaging.
