I-131 Uptake in Malignant Fibrous Histiocytoma

Abstract

I-131 whole-body imaging is used for detection of functioning metastases in patients with well differentiated thyroid carcinoma. False positive uptake of I-131 in nonthyroid related tumors have rarely been described in the literature. The authors present a patient with papillary thyroid cancer that demonstrates uptake of I-131 at scintigraphy due to malignant fibrous histiocytoma.
