There has been significant controversy among pediatric and neonatal critical care providers regarding the rule of six (ROS) versus the standardized concentrations (SC) method for ordering continuous infusions in the ICU. The debate has intensified since the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) mandated a change from ROS to SC by January 2005. We conducted a survey assessing the practices and preferences of providers to compare the two methods.
