Continuous measurements of cardiac output (CCO) can be obtained from the pulmonary artery catheter (PAC) via inverse thermodilution, time averaged over 3 to 6 minutes. Validation studies have shown a good accuracy compared to the gold standard intermittent thermodilution (ITD). There are few data in hemodynamically unstable patients on a general ICU.
