In this issue we publish a list of people who assisted the Editorial Board with the review process during the past year. This includes reviewers who read and provided feedback on submitted manuscripts (in some cases, as many as half a dozen manuscripts during the year), as well as Guest or Special Section Editors. In general, these ad-hoc Section Editors helped the board by managing the review process for one or two articles when regular Section Editors could not handle the full load of submitted manuscripts. Two of them, however, took a significantly heavier load: Dr. Michael Gorga, who handled several manuscripts in the Audiology and Auditory Disorders section, and Dr. Karen I. Kirk, who handled all 11 manuscripts in the supplement published together with this issue of Ear and Hearing. The Editorial Board is extremely grateful to each and every one the experts who generously gave their time and effort to maintain and improve the quality of our journal. Simply stated, we could not have done it without their help.
Although publishing obituaries for Ear and Hearing authors is not our policy, the Editorial Board wishes to mark the unfortunate coincidence of Dr. Maureen Higgins’ death with the publication of one of her articles in this issue of the journal. Although Dr. Higgins’ research area was speech production, she was particularly interested in the effect of hearing on speech production by deaf individuals and published many important, carefully conducted studies on this difficult topic, some of them in Ear and Hearing. Dr. Higgins also served the speech and hearing research community in her role as a careful, considerate, and conscientious editor and reviewer. She will be sorely missed.
