The “success” of state rate review: view with caution

Abstract

Recent studies have presented data indicating that state rate review systems can slow the rate of increase in hospital cost inflation. However, this evidence is not conclusive. The reported decreases in costs and revenues may be related at least in part to factors other than rate review.
