Abstract

The uranium in typical adult diets in New York City, Chicago, and San Francisco has been measured to determine body intake levels. Air, water, lung, and urine samples were also analyzed for uranium content. The diet data indicate uniform intake of uranium at the three sites examined. The values found were 1.3, 1.4, and 1.3 μg of uranium per day for New York City, Chicago and San Francisco, respectively. Based on these values, uranium excreted in urine by inference would be approximately 0.007 μg/1. The measured urinary excretion levels for non-exposed adults in the Chicago area indicate a range of values within the previously reported New York levels of from 0.03 to 0.3 μg of uranium per liter.
