This excellent book serves as a companion to the Core Curriculum for Holistic Nursing 1997 edited by Barbara Dossey. It is an invaluable guide and reference for nurses preparing for credentialing as holistic nurses, for educators teaching the principles of holistic nursing, and for all nurses interested in learning more about holisitice philosophy and principles.
A comprehensive introduction outlines the history of the holistic nurse movement and the development of the American Holistic Nurses’ Association (AHNA). The book is organized around holistic care’s five core values: philosophy and education; ethics, theories, and research; nurse self-care; communication, therapeutic environment, and cultural diversity; and caring process. Case studies are used throughout and the Appendices include lists of certificate and graduate programs. I will use this as a reference for my graduate students and recommend it to other professionals interested in practicing or teaching holistic nursing.
