As physicians, we strive to provide care for our patients using evidence-based medicine. Ophthalmology has been a leading specialty in using clinical trials to evaluate therapies. Even so, most clinical decisions in ophthalmology are made with very limited evidence.
Our understanding of the pathogenesis and management of many ophthalmic diseases is only partial and imperfect. As a result, there are many controversies in the management of ophthalmic disorders. Physicians address these controversies by balancing descriptive studies, published series, and relevant data from related fields. The present issue provides a rigorous analysis of the most important controversial issues in our field.
